Recent status of refugees from Ukraine in Poland

 

The Russian invasion into Ukraine, which began on Thursday, February 24, 2022, has displaced a cumulative total of over 1.67 million people across the border into Poland. (Reference source: https://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20220314/k10013530141000.html)

 

In Poland, not only the government, but also private volunteers from companies and individuals have been mobilized to deal with these refugees.

 

Shelters are beginning to run out of daily necessities such as food, hygiene items, and warm clothing, and the number of refugees is expected to continue to increase, so continued assistance is needed.

 

 

Details of Emergency Assistance : How we provide support

 

The Polish branch of the Fukudenkai, based in Krakow, Poland, is playing a central role in initiating support activities with the cooperation of Japanese, Ukrainian evacuees, and Polish in Krakow.
 
Since it is time-consuming and impractical to collect supplies in Japan and transport them to Poland, we will transfer money to our Polish branch and purchase and deliver supplies locally in Poland.
 

The funds will be used to cover the costs of the following support activities

・Bringing supplies to the donation collection center
・Free provision of Ukrainian food in cooperation with Ukrainian restaurants
・Donation of supplies/operating funds to children's facilities

Other donations and support activities will be carried out as needed while assessing the local situation.

 

We will take photos and videos of all the support activities and post them on this page as they become available.
 

 

About Social Welfare Corporation Fukudenkai 

 

Founded in 1876 as "Fukudenkai Ikujiin", it is the oldest children's home in Japan. Currently, we also operate welfare-type facilities for children with disabilities and facilities for the elderly.
 
We have historical ties to Poland.

 

When Polish Siberian Children came to Japan after the end of World War I under the auspices of the Japanese Red Cross Society, the children were accepted to Fukudenkai  as a place to stay in Tokyo.

 

 

These ties have led to close relationship Fukudenkai with Poland. Ms. Agata Kornhauser-Duda, the First Lady of the Republic of Poland, paying an official visit to Fukudenkai on the occasion of her visit to Japan in October 2019, and Mr. Andrzej Duda, the President of the Republic of Poland, in July 2021.

 

 

 

In addition, since 2016, we have been invited to participate in the "World Cup of Children from Care Homes" held annually in Warsaw, Poland, as a team "Tokyo Friends", selecting children from our facilities and 63 other care homes in Tokyo.
 

We have also played against teams selected from care homes in Ukraine twice in the past, deepening our friendship through valuable exchanges that transcend language and cultural barriers.

Tax Benefits from Specific Donations

Donations made through this project are eligible for the following tax benefits. For details, please refer to the website of the local government, the local tax office, or the National Tax Agency. 

 

Individuals who donate 2,000 yen or more may choose to receive either a tax credit or an income tax deduction, whichever is more advantageous, by filing a tax return with the donation receipt.

 

*Some resident tax benefits may also be available. 

 

In the case of a corporation, the "special deductible limit for donations" is applied, and the donation can be included in deductible expenses within the limit.

 

A "donation deduction receipt" will be sent to donors at a later date upon request.
Name on the donation deduction receipt: The name on the receipt will be made out to the "gift recipient" indicated at the time of your donation.

Donation deduction receipt shipping address: The donation deduction receipt will be sent to the "gift recipient" indicated at the time of your donation.
Date of receipt of donation: The date of payment from READYFOR to Social Welfare Corporation Fukudenkai (scheduled for August 10, 2022).
Dispatch of donation deduction receipt: Scheduled for October 2022.

・When you support us by bank transfer, we will ask for your bank account information, but in principle, no refunds will be made because of the all-in nature of the project.
